2026

Michel Bau is working with a consortium partner to construct a 1.5-kilometer district heating pipeline at a depth of up to 6 meters below the Elbe River. The work includes excavation of the starting and ending pits, tunnel construction, and connections to the interconnection points.

2023

Michel Bau celebrates its 100th birthday. Sebastian Florczak and Stephan Remer are appointed additional managing directors.

2019

For a first time Michel Bau was qualified to build a water supply line in Hamburg. In a next step for the digitalisation Michel Bau introduced the software HiltiOn!Track.

2017

Together with two partners Michel Bau built a district heating pipeline with a length of 3.7 km. Now the heat of the copper company “Aurubis” supplies 6,000 households in the HafenCity of Hamburg.

2014

In Hamburg Michel Bau built the Osterbekstammsiel, a main sewer of the city with a length of 1.1 km. This project is one of the biggest in sewer construction ever.

2013

In 2013 Michel Bau started construction of “Transportsiel” Isebek in Hamburg - the largest contract in companies history.

2010

District heating civil engineering has become a permanent fixture in the company and reaches a temporary high point with the "Spange Horn" project.

2008

From 2008 to 2013 Michel Bau finished 5 rehabilitation and desilting projects in India with a total value of 28.8 million euros.

2002

Michel Bau established a management system for safety at site, health and environmental protection and is certified according to the requirements of SCC (Safety Certificate Contractors).

2001

The first contract abroad was obtained, in Mumbai (Bombay), India, Michel Bau rehabilitated 4.30 km of sewer lines, funded by the World Bank.

2000

Reinhard Michel and his son Ulf are managing Michel Bau and are concentrating on the original range of activities: sewer construction, sewer rehabilitation, pipe jacking and overpumping. They have decided to expand their national and international business activities.

1991

Right from the start Michel Bau joined "Gueteschutz Kanalbau", a German Quality Control Association for construction and maintenance of drainage systems. The company is certified for sewer construction, sewer rehabilitation, pipe jacking and pipe boring.

1971

The company was renamed in Michel Bau GmbH & Co. KG.

1969

A new headquarter was built in Neumuenster.

1964

Company founder Ernst Michel died. His partners went on managing the company.

1956

Reinhard Michel, a nephew of Ernst Michel joined the company.

1946

Ernst Michel joined a company as managing director, clearing up the debris of war in Neumuenster and Kiel.

1945

World War II: The familiy took shelter in Schleswig-Holstein, a federal state in Northern Germany.

1923

Ernst Michel founded a civil engineering and road construction company named "MICHEL" in Bartenstein, East Prussia (nowadays Poland). It's range of activity was road construction, civil engineering, fresh water lines and land improvement. For example they realized the construction of one of the first Autobahn from Elbing to Koenigsberg. On average they employed three technicians, four office clerks and 450 skilled workers.
